    I think there was a discussion on these lines before; Hummel might not have been a genius, he might not have made history, but he did write good, enjoyable music. Not such a bad thing, I think.


    (personally I'm always rather underwhelmed whenever I hear any of Mozart's instrumental music.)

          Hummel wrote three string quartets around 1804, the first of which is worth half an hour of anybody's time. There is also a fine piano quintet (Op.87), which disappoints me only by the brevity of its finale which hardly seems to balance the dramatic first movement.

            I am a Hummel fan and I loved the first track on this broadcast - Rondo Brillante op 109. Its a ripper!
