    Nobody for Meyerbeer?

Alas poor Meyerbeer. So neglected nowadays. So cherished until around WW1.

So much more interesting than some early Wagner (who was so rude about him), eg the interminable Lohengrin.

I caught a bit of it as I was cooking last night. I was amazed by how Wagnerian it sounded - that ominous descending theme in the brass in the conclusion of Act 3 Scene 7 from Robert Le Diable). The expert made this gothic scene of "zombie nuns" sound fascinating. It has enticed me to investigate the opera further...

I have not heard any of the Meyerbeer programmes. Are they good? Would you recommend I try to catch up with them?

I heard the opening of the first programme. The very first music clip shouted "Gilbert & Sullivan", and the trouble for me was that G&S was just as good, possibly better. Some music easily survives being parodied, but maybe not Meyerbeer?
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
