Famous Four: Oh, No! Not Again?

For Radio 3's Baroque Spring, Composer of the Week chooses four of the most well-loved Baroque composers - JS Bach, Vivaldi, Purcell and starting this week with Handel.

I wouldn’t normally complain any programmes about Bach, Vivaldi, Purcell and Handel but wouldn’t this Baroque Spring have been an excellent opportunity to introduce less well known composers’ music and how these composers, including the ‘most well-loved’ ones, are musically connected to each other and to many historical events?

These four composers need no special event to be introduced. If there is a lost opportunity, this is.

                  Wouldn't dream of it!

Absolutely no complaints about Bach, Handel, Purcell, Vivaldi - just, as the OP says, a pity that a celebration of the Baroque should begin with so "safe" an opening week.

Pachelbel (so much more than THAT PIECE).

And belated welcome to Catherine Bott.

                      And Charpentier, of course.
                      Not to mention Cavalli.

If it were for the opening week, I’d have quite enjoyed it. No, this is OCPW (one composer per week) for the entire ‘celebration’. The rest is...

Rameau is top of my list from that time to really discover.

And Frescobaldi is the best name in history. ever. Bar none.
Apart from an old school teacher's dog which rejoiced in the name of "Hofflewiffle."
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.
