COTW - English Pastoralists - Week of 13 August 2012

I was annoyed to have only listened to the fifth of these five programmes.

    - What are the chances of a repeat please?

    - Are there any plans to create an accessible COTW archive? We have then now for BAL, DID, jazz and world.

You've got about 8 hours to hear last Friday's programme! Perhaps a repeat could be arranged for 'The Festive Season'. One discovery for me was a piece called (I think) 'North Country Sketches' by Arthur Butterworth, who was apparently dubbed 'The English Sibelius' at one time.

Isn't that the one he caught?

There have been a lot of repeats in COTW recently, so you might be lucky.

I haven't checked, but I think there are podcasts. I don't think you get so much of the music though, presumably for contract/copyright reasons.

Thank you Flosshilde and Northender. Yes, as cloughie says, I heard last Friday's one. What I have done is find on Spotify a lot of the music on the programme playlists so that I can listen to it at a convenient time. But a repeat would be good!

#2, there is a 'North Country Sketches' by Delius, is there also one by Butterworth? Perhaps you are thinking of 'A Shropshire Lad'?

The correct title of the Arthur Butterworth piece which is I mentioned is 'Northern Summer Nights' (his Opus 18). The featured recording was by the RSNO, conducted by the composer.
