    19.12.2011 - Handel

1/5. Handel in Italy: Donald Macleod presents music from the early part of Handel's career in Italy.
2/5. Conflict and Resolution: three operas from key moments in Handel's career.
3/5. Handel and the Age of the Celebrity Singer: three of the most important singers in Handel's career.
4/5. Handel and His Royal Masters: music by Handel written for various British monarchs.
5/5. Handel and Jennens: the collaborations between Handel and librettist Charles Jennens.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Donald Macleod on top form (as ever) and absolutely enjoyable. Lots of wonderful performances. But no repeat?! How on earth am I going to find three more excuses to sit down by the radio at noon now?

I thought that the last programme was interesting, especially about Jennen's Jacobite sympathies & the coded messages he slipped into the oratorios, especially as Handel was virtually court composer to the Hanoverians in England.
