I've been listening to Bosman's music all this week, not having previously heard of her. The music is strong and well composed, old-fashioned by comparison with that of her well-known contemporaries, the idiom Neo-romantic, perhaps closest in ethos to that of fellow Jewish composer Ernest Bloch.

Interesting. A complete unknown to me but the Bloch reference draws me in -
Richard, after listening to the entire week I may have somewhat overdone the Bloch association - what they had in common were early influences absorbed from the Austro-German tradition, later from French music - Ravel audibly in particular - and both of course being Jewish. I have to say I got to love her music more and more as the week has progressed, particularly the little jazz and Spanish-tinged flute and ensemble Concert Piece from the mid-'twenties opening the final programme which I could listen to again and again for its contrapuntal detailing. What a pity there would seem to be no extant recordings of Noémie Pérugia and Bosmans.Originally posted by richardfinegold View PostComment
