England's Golden Age from 3-7 June

    This sounds great.

    Oriana's Triumphs
    The Italian Influence
    Composers in Exile
James I's Chapel Royal and the short life of Orlando Gibbons
Thomas Tomkins – a last flowering of the Golden Age

    It does!

(Looking forward to a future week devoted to Music from "England's Platinum Age" [c1400-1525-ish] at some later date, too. )

      .

England's Golden Age from 3-7 June

... I always suspected our contribution to music was not of long standing - but this sounds extreme.

Thanks dovers; no excuse for missing it now
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

I shouldn't worry, dovers - my suggested "Platinum Age" lasted less 90 minutes!

There don't seem to be any composers beginning with D listed in the proposed golden Age week either!

It does indeed, ds. I was glad to see an old acquaintance listed, and I thought it would be a good time to announce my eventual success at getting an email address, so that I could follow up Orlando Gibbons in particular on iPlayer. But now my main concern is to do with England's Platinum Age, and the lack of 'composers beginning with D.' I don't get either.

                  .

... I suspect Richd: T was lamenting the curious absence of Dowland in the Golden Age.

Ferney will be hoping for Dunstaple in the Platinum Age...

I think Richard was referring to Dowland.

I was referring to another "D" - Dunstaple, (and the composers around and just after him: Browne, Powers, Lambe, and the other chaps featured in the Eton Choirbooks etc.)

Not "instead of", you understand - "as well as" in another CotW series.

                    (Like vinty said )

Dowland had his own week of programmes 15 months ago, so they may be planning repeating those programmes?

Dowland of course! But Dunstable escaped me.

I get it now - D for Dunce.

Indeed - hence my "either" .....but yes, I was forgetting JD had had his own week. He doesn't do too badly, actually, with a couple of BALS under his belt also. .

Starting at noon today (the programme, not the golden age)

Dowland's Belt sounds like an uncharacteristic romp, perhaps in the same vein as Munday's Joy and Nobody's Gigge (Fitz. Virg. Bk).
