... which he may well not have written at all! He was a really interesting composer though, I'm looking forward to this.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I am looking forward to this. I will always remember a monk at the abbey I go to, playing an organ work by Pachelbel and was completely taken aback by it.

I remember being present when Ligeti's Volumina was played in a church. Afterwards someone turned to me and said, "They'll probably have to re-consecrate the place following that!"

In the old days, when the Canon was usually played far too slowly, I considered Pachelbel to be among the most boring composers ever. This opinion was reinforced when Radio 3 put on a series of his complete organ works (those were the days!). However, when I heard some of his motets sung by Cantus Cölln, I revised my opinion. Jauchzet dem Herrn is a delight from beginning to end.

I shall listen with interest this week.

His organ music, choral music and partitas are brilliant music as well. If I see one more hour-long compilation of every conceivable orchestration of the Canon in D, I swear I gonna hurt someone! Pachelbel was many things, a one hit wonder was not one of them, as this upload amply proves..."

The chamber music is sublime..I am very fond of a series of discs recorded some years ago by John Holloway etc for the Danish label Da Capo.

Erm ... I hesitate to suggest this - and, of course, apologise profusely if this turns out to be presumptuous on my part - but, you wouldn't happen to be confusing Pachelbel with Buxtehude on this occasion would you, Micky?

I very much enjoyed the first programme, Suite in G Major and Cantata in particular.
