Arguably considered by the Danes to be their second most significant composer. I found the programme helpful on facts but was surprised that so little was said of his symphonies and that apart from No 1 they focused on the comparatively slight No 4. Of the other pieces that were broadcast, the Sonata In E minor, Op 28 was possibly the one I liked best.

I have the set of symphonies that Christopher Hogwood recorded for Chandos and think they are very nice indeed. Did they get played during the week? -

You're very welcome! Hogwood's forces are Danish and the plus for me is that they get that very warm and spacious Chandos sound. A set well worth having.Comment
