    Niels Gade - 20-24 February 2017

Arguably considered by the Danes to be their second most significant composer. I found the programme helpful on facts but was surprised that so little was said of his symphonies and that apart from No 1 they focused on the comparatively slight No 4. Of the other pieces that were broadcast, the Sonata In E minor, Op 28 was possibly the one I liked best.

I have the set of symphonies that Christopher Hogwood recorded for Chandos and think they are very nice indeed. Did they get played during the week?

No, not really Micky, they opted for Michael Schønwandt.

But I did look at information on the Hogwood recordings during the programme.

      Thank you for the recommendation.

You're very welcome! Hogwood's forces are Danish and the plus for me is that they get that very warm and spacious Chandos sound. A set well worth having.
