Thanks, both, Ardcarp and S_A! With chamber choirs from Russia, Ireland and Leicester all singing, it's going to be an interesting time on Saturday encouraging them to sound like one choir by the time of the performance - but I'm looking forward to it. A very nice orch and a terrific organist will both help a lot.

Sounds very interesting choral combination, and I'm sure you'll get a good sound - three choirs, how big? Not too big I hope as much of the Faure requires sensitivity rather than volume. Enjoy your evening.

Been another week of discovery for me. Some core stuff, but so much to delight and take one in new directions with Faure.

Thanks, cloughie. Choirs not too big: 10 Russians, 12 Irish and 16 locals - 38 in total. With any luck, that should be fine.

Me too. In checking whether this week was a repeat, I found that I had retained the previous Fauré week, first broadcast 2010, repeated 2013 (it was different; but I'd never got around to listening to it). So I placed all 10 programmes together on the iPod and they have been the soundtrack of a number of recent road trips. Great listening, and no duplication in the sense that where pieces appeared both times, different performers were chosen. In the case of the Requiem, two different Herreweghe performances. I found the one from the 2010/13 series* far preferable - a revelation in fact, as I didn't know it.

            .

            *Requiem (La Madeleine version)
Performer: Agnès Mellon (Soprano), Performer: Peter Kooy (Baritone),
La Chapelle Royale, Performer: Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Louis, Ensemble Musique Oblique
            Philippe Herreweghe (Conductor)
            HARMONIA MUNDI: HMD941292.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I'm kicking myself that I was away for the Faure week, and didn't send a request to R3 to play some of Christine Croshaw's excellent new piano music CD which we have discussed in forums here. Here's a sample of her Ballade Op.19 (what an epic piece!)
