COTW - Martinu - wc 10/10/16

I've heard bits of the Martinu COTW this week. Really good, I recommend this. The discussion about Martinu living up in a bell tower,
makes sense to me now. I always thought his flute sonata was a strange piece, but it makes more sense with the bell references.

Other works by him seem to me to have been similarly influenced.

Mrs. PG's Godfather is a bass player in the Czech Phil. so we've listened to a lot of Martinu over the years and have grown to like his music. Jiri Belohlavek's recordings of the complete symphonies are often to be heard at PG Tower's.

Am I alone in hearing more and more unexpected similarities with other composers? Walton's Facade in Le Revue de Cuisine the other day; Prokofiev in the Fantasie et Toccata; Vaughan William's admittedly much later Ninth Symphony in the Memorial to Lidice?
