Though he's high on my list, my favourite is Ravel who taught RVW a bit!

I am listening and enjoying the RVW CotW now. And I would enjoy a weekly programme on R3 devoted to music composed in the British Isles. Would others enjoy one too?

My first wife hated Classical Music, but she was very charmed by The Lark Ascending, commenting that it was one of the most beautiful things she had ever heard. That almost ruined it for me.

                          Nicely told!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Well, it's five years since the last time RVW was featured COTW, but maybe one agrees with Yours Truly in thinking his return to be somewhat timely?

We start off with one of the man's best-known compositions - which, as a gateway for those already attracted by this and the Lark, tallies, I suppose.
The one time I heard the Fantasia was at the Proms, in 1966, it would possibly have been. It was as if one was attuned to the vibes, which seemed to reverberate the whole building and turn every pore and nerve end into sensory receptacles. The effect in a suitable auditorium - and this the Albert Hall seemed, for once, to be - can be astonishing.

                            Be consoled!

                            (That's an order)

Should be going down a bomb in the verdant pastures of Shepherds Bush Green, then.
