    Over on Twitter, Donald Macleod has been to Riga for this week's Composer of the Week, "Christmas in Latvia" 23 - 27/12/2024.

    Donald Macleod visits the city of Riga to experience the seasonal music and Christmas traditions of Latvia – a country overflowing with choral excellence. Today, he meets composer Rihards Dubra, samples Riga’s Christmas Markets, and hears how singing has become part of Latvia’s national identity, particularly at Christmas time.

    I did 'drop in' and am glad I did so. Apart from anything else the music was a wonderful antidote to the UPF fare that's dominating the R3 airwaves.
    The Dubra Te Deum was quite some piece - probably best not to ask what the decibel level got up to!

      No idea what UPF means but as an antidote to the standard Christmas fare I could not agree more,

        Sorry - Ultra Processed Food -the latest health concern bogeyman. And to clarify, I'm not disputing their potential to cause harm - but just fed-up with the way 'everyone and the dog' has jumped on the pontification and finger wagging and displays of ignorance band wagon.
