Today's programme (which I thoroughly enjoyed) certainly started the week off showing how versatile Lassus was. If anything the Missa Susanne was a bit staid and 'English' in the hands of Oxford Camerata, but my 'discovery' was the gorgeous villanelle Sto core mio from the Daedalus Ensemble, with a fantastic countertenor soloist. Who he?

I very much enjoyed Sto core mio too. There seems to be little information about the members on their English site.

What makes you think/do you know it was a countertenor (I'm not saying it definitely isn’t)?

OK, I'll rephrase that bit....with a fantastic singer in the mezzo/alto register. Who he/she?

Definitely countertenor on top of Penitential Psalms playing right now.....

What is going on with playlist? Today's programme had a separate box to click, but on clicking it a message came up saying the site could not be found. C'mon CoTW. Your computer skills are even worse than mine. I'm emailing the programme, BTW.

Pacis amans seems to be rather a lengthy motet. Or Donald M was particularly verbose today.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

              in case tomorrow's doesn't appear

              4. Lassus and the King of France: Donald focuses on the time when Lassus was showered with honours and was courted by royalty.

Bon jour: et puis, quelles nouvelles?. The King's Singers.

Kyrie (Missa Congratulamini mihi). Gabrieli Consort/Paul McCreesh.

Pour courir en poste a la ville. Hilliard Ensemble.

La nuict froide et sombre. Hilliard Ensemble.

              Prophetiae Sibyllarum. Brabant Ensemble/Stephen Rice.

Sine textu 4. Susanne Braumann, Lucia Krommer (violas da gamba).

Agnus Dei; Communio; Antiphona (Missa pro defunctis). Hilliard Ensemble.

Someone has been busy, busy. Today's playlist is now there in full. No sign of tomorrow's yet

Did today’s programme on iPlayer finish properly? It sounded as if it ran out of time.

Let us know if you hear from them. I didn’t.

Do we have access to your playlist or is it on subscription?

                  ardcarp
Going back to the singer of Monday’s programme (#18), it’s from this recording which is download only. I guess whoever was responsible for the playlist didn’t bother to download the details (I guess this is how it works?)
Canzoni Villanesche Alla Napolitana. Accent: ACC94107. Buy download online. Ensemble Daedalus

Despite all this mess, I am thoroughly enjoying the music. I have never associated Lassus with a song about drinking wine.

They were announced by DM today (in the limited section I heard) as performing something, I think a Holy Week motet that I recognised. Can someone tell me the title?

There's nothing on today's page of the website...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                          There is and it does!

Friday's (it was a bit jumbled up) is:

                          Lassus:
Al gran Guglielmo nostro. Odhecaton, director Paolo Da Col.
Sanctus; Agnus Dei (Missa Entre vous filles). Oxford Camerata, director Jeremy Summerly.
Io son si stanco sotto. Huelgas Ensemble, director Paul Van Nevel.
Arse la fiamma. Odhecaton, director Paolo Da Col.
Prolongati sunt dies mei; Deficiat in dolore vita mea (Cantiones sacrae). Collegium Vocale Gent, director Philippe Herreweghe.
Lagrime di San Pietro (Part III). Huelgas Ensemble, director Paul Van Nevel.

I hope I've divided up the lines correctly.

                                No bum notes, I hope.

Oh dear, I've lowered the tone.
