Anyone listing? I quite enjoyed this one mostly because he is obviously well at ease moving between genres and he is articulate too. His personal life is a bit chaotic though[!].

Whether he has produced anything of significance in the "serious" area I have yet to discover, perhaps later in the week - what he had to say today about Itzak Perlman was interesting "he can do anything!".

Sorry I'm not sure what programme you are referring to! In my view he is an undervalued genius!

Andre Previn - Composer of the Week.

Something of a cross between Hanson and Bernstein, I find.

May I also commend AP's memoir, No Minor Chords, 1991, (Transworld Publishers) for the breadth of his experience and hilarious anecdotes.

I've been listening to it in the car. Some great anecdotes from Previn, and what a talent. Looking forward to the rest of the week.

I'm listening to this not so much for the music he composed but because he is such a good interviewee, and also because I admire his astonishing versatility and musicianship. Very enjoyable so far.

This is one I've earmarked to listen to on the podcast - full conversation and abbreviated music!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Podcast listening is OK, though you'll only get a potted version - 1 hour or so, instead of around 5 hours. Sod's Law dictates that the one piece you'd really like to hear in the podcast will not be in the edited version. However, I do that sometimes - pick up the podcast, otherwise I try to listen, or find a way to record for later.

Maybe an hour is enough though - I've only heard bits of the series so far this week. The guitar and electric guitar concerto yesterday was a bit weird.

I find that if there's a musical lead I want to follow, I do that in other ways...

just listening to Honey and Rue from todays show, which I didn't know.

as you say really, but I thought it sounded fresh and reasonably inventive.

Actually, what I am surprised at , is that it doesn't seem to get much airplay. seems pretty radio friendly.

Heard part of today's programme - AP sounded in very good form and his compositions sound really good and tuneful! Will look for more in
                      2015!
