Seriously, I'm quite unfamiliar with this composer, but I've been drawn in by the little I've heard to date.

There is no doubt that the Dutch Master will outfox all opponents with his game plan :

    e.g. ABA, ABACA, or ABACABA

Anyone used to 4:4:2 will know that their number is up...

I caught the last bit of symphony No2 and Concerto Op.67 for cello and orchestra, and very much enjoyed both. The concerto reminded me of Finzi’s. I’ll try listen from Monday’s programme. How come his music has hardly ever been heard on R3? It is accessible in the very best sense.

You may be joking, but that's why I clicked on the thread and was confused for 3/4 seconds!

Real revelation. Knew nothing about his music at all. Interesting week.

Prompted by this thread, COTW on Hans Gal is my drive time listening this week. Until this week I had never heard of Hans Gal, never mind heard his music. I have been entranced but unlike SA, I cannot really begin to articulate why. He seems to have so much to say and has a measured and precise way of saying it. He is his own man, untouched by trends and fashion. I am enjoying it, and enjoying it a lot. Thank you mercia for drawing the programme to our attention.

And Radio 3, this is what you should be doing. This is your public service remit. Not the insipid pap that comprises the rest of your daytime schedule.
