    Michael Nyman

Am I missing something? I mean, he's obviously made a bob or two, but all I heard today was root position chords banged out, a tune on top and little in the way of rhythmic variety.

Will the next 4 days be more of the same?

Turn it off, you'll miss nothing.

You're missing something in your head or heart, but don't worry that it's not there.

That's what they often teach nowadays for GSCE composition. I'm sure MrGG doesn't.

Was simply astonished to see his name on this list. And having heard today's, even more so.
Does he have friends in high places, because musically.............erm, .....well......erm....right.

            Hmm.

Michael Nyman IS and interesting musician
His book Experimental Music, Cage and Beyond was for many years the seminal text on the subject
and many of his earlier works (and the collaborations with Peter Greenaway) were really worth the attention
however, like mr Glass and Reich IMV, he seems to have settled into a compositional style that has lost the energy and relentlessness of his earlier work.

This in a live performance at huge volume is great stuff IMV (not just because its got a couple of my mates in it, honest )

and this was a great single partly because it's in the spirit of Mozart

(But I certainly don't encourage the tedious sub Nyman, Einaudi nonsense that many GCSE students love so much)

I'm pleased I got my assumption right today.

To me the "relentlessness" and reductionism of the early product is part of its problem, and leads ineluctably to the later stuff.

Sorry, HG, I find that a tad enigmatic. I'm a bit feeble-witted generally, so would you elaborate? (BTW you're not the Controller Designate are you?)

Chasing sheep is best left to shepherds.

                            More than likely, I'd say.

interesting that a recent physics arXiv blog ( https://medium.com/the-physics-arxiv-blog/cfaaa96198e2) describes an automated approach to music generation so Nyman might well be worthy of protection by luddites as a 'craft' worker in a field soon to be better automated
