What a crazy release - is Uncle Bernie short of money now he has retired - I think it would be a service to all his long term followers to release some of his recordings that have been long out of the catalogue or those that have only been available at high prices for limited periods eg for the Beethoven year his LPO symphonies and his early Tchaikovsky recordings - Australian Eloquence perhaps!

There is some money to be made amongst some well healed fanatical devotees of vinyl. See $100,000 turntables. Many Rattle/Berlin releases were direct to disc vinyl recordings, and after they sold that first run they release them in other formats

The Rattle downloads are very affordable on 7digital. Maybe the Bernie B7 will follow suit! His BPO 4&5 are there!

I'm not one, but there are vinyl enthusiasts who both love the sound and the product, and will lap this up. Although there is some old-fashioned technology involved in turntables, the actual recording process is of a very special and unique kind, isn't it? The 'collectors' item' dimension may not be of the same order as the recent Bob Dylan three-figure vinyl release (purchased by my son!), but is not negligible either.

            Or in Franglais

Chaque a son platter et scraper!

(Imagine spending all that brass and then being terrified of damaging it every time it is taken out ot of it’s sleeve. Is the B7 one movement per side or is there a blank side - the 1967 CAO had Siegfried Idyll on Side 4 !)

Yup. Call me an idiot but a symphony I love, one of my favourite conductors, the best orchestra in the world (probably), 180g vinyl and fees for some work I've done recently burning a hole in my pocket ..... Duly ordered.

The video advert on the BPO site suggests its on three sides, as the fourth side appears to have been signed by those involved in the recording.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Play it? I'll keep it wrapped in its cellophane and gaze reverently at it. Seriously, though, as often as I feel that I need to listen to Bruckner 7 (which is quite often), although I was very kindly provided with a recording of last summer's VPO Proms performance.

Probably much too late for most Forum-ites, but for anyone in a night-owl mood, WCRB is airing a 2017 Boston Symphony Orchestra concert with Bernard Haitink in 2 hours:

Saturday, May 8, 20218:00 PMIn a 2017 concert at Symphony Hall, Bernard Haitink leads the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Haydn's Symphony No. 60, Debussy's…

It's not archived, so the only chance to hear it is in the moment. Sorry for not mentioning this earlier.

The Bruckner 7 performance which Haitink gave with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra on June 15 2019, and which was his last concert given in the Concertgebouw, has just been released on CD. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B099ZP96...v_lig_dp_it_im

There is also a CD available from the Vienna Philharmonic Webshop https://www.wienerphilharmoniker.at/...-haitink/32992 of the Salzburg Bruckner 7 given on August 31 2019, the same one that has already been released on DVD.

Not sure why Haitink's very last concert, on September 6 2019, in Lucerne, has never been released in preference

Thanks for this, Pet. Have never outgrown the thrill of a Haitink new release!
