My local library has this, and I spent an hour in a chair there reading through it. I've got a couple of books to read in the queue ahead of it so I haven't borrowed it yet. I read a lot about both music and WWII History so of course it appeals to me. If your interests are similar you will probably enjoy it. He seems to write well.

Thanks for the alert. Like richardfinegold I too have a big interest in both music and the Second World War so this has promptly been added to my wish list.

I visited Leningrad in December 1979 and went to the Piskaryov Cemetery where there is a memorial to the 600,000 Russian dead from the siege, a most moving experience.
