Paavo Berglund

I have only now stumbled across this tribute to the late Paavo Berglund and I'm sure that anyone who knew him or enjoyed his conducting would be interested to read it.

Unapproachable? Well, he did have all the men of the Bournemouth Symphony orchestra out in Meyrick Park to play soccer one Sunday morning and even I, a dedicated rugby man, took part.

Welcome back HS- yes I think it was IGI who told a lovely story of how Berglund was far from unapproachable when he was young. I am glad to see that the Icon box includes a lot of Berglund that was out of the catalogue in particular his excellent BSO Shostakovich records ( the wrong Kullervo though from Helsinki rather than Bournemouth !)
