Stolen Strad

Read yesterday that in Milwaukee, a Strad that was on loan to the Concertmaster of the Milwaukee SO was stolen after the musician was tasered while carrying the instrument.
Wouldn't the difficulties of fencing such a rare item make this crime not worth the trouble? My guess is that
it's headed for Russia or the Far East where tracking and returning the item might be a challenge.
