    Solo performance

What would boarders understand by this term?

I was listening with delight to the recent series of New Generation Artists programmes hosted by C B-H.

Last Friday, Mark Simpson (Clarinet) was on. C B-H was detailing his extensive collaborations with other NGAs. She then announced that we were going to hear him in solo performance of Finzi's 5 Bagatelles. As these are for clarinet and piano, it seems somewhat disrespectful to the pianist (in this case Richard Uttley) to describe this as a solo performance. To my ear both musicians met on equal terms in their rendition of these Bagatelles.

Perhaps it was a jazz version of the Finzi?

Could it be CB-H's deliberate mistake - tweet us on #clembloomer?

Thanks for your replies - I would agree, but was not sure of the definition. A soloist can, after all, perform with an orchestra. I did wonder if the convention of yesteryear with the pianist as mere accompanist was being implied in this introduction.
