    New Year's Honours

A CH for Peter Maxwell Davies and an OM for Sir Simon Rattle .

Less edifying an OBE for Katherine Jenkins ( though hopefully for her charity work mainly ) and still no DBE for Ida Haendel ! Perhaps we should petition ?

Also a CBE for John Copley and an OBEs for Paul Griffiths and Gillian Humphreys. Quite a lot of awards to people active in amateur music making.

Is that "Sir Peter Maxwell Davies", Barbie?

According to the BBC Website, she got her gong for "Services to Music". I cannot find adequate words ...

Perhaps we should instigate a Disservice to Music Award, like the 'Golden Raspberrys' that are announced before the Oscars. KJ would up for those along with ALW, the other KJ, AR, RW etc.

AR ? I think that is being a bit harsh on Andrew Ridgeley

Some people have expressed disappointment that David Beckham OBE wasn’t given a knighthood. This certainly would not have been for his services on the soccer pitch in recent years. Sir Alex Ferguson (a pretty good judge I would think) sold him in 2003 to Real Madrid when he felt his contribution to the team was on the wane. I believe Beckham was never the same player but when he was at Real Madrid and later Los Angeles Galaxy and on loan to AC Milan wherever he went merchandise sales were maximised. One might say that soccer clubs were buying a celebrity, male model who could cross the ball wonderfully.

So if any potential knighthood was to be given it cannot have been for football reasons so then it must have been for having tattoos, stating how much he loves his unusually named children and for his good looks. Well, I have two of those attributes. What me jealous of his handsome looks, certainly not!

I agree with Stanfordian on this. I was not shocked, angry or disappointed that David Beckham or Andy Murray were left off the honors list. That said Murray winning Wimbledon is not so far off Bradley Wiggins receiving a Knighthood for winning the Tour de France.

                        These are political honors anyway.

Quite - but then Murray is Scottish & they can't be giving a Scot a Knighthood just before a certain referendum - nobody's said what would happen to Knighthoods (& Dames etc) awarded under the UK when Scotland is independent. Will they be retained, or given up, or what?

(said with a degreee of tongue in cheek)

So, what are your children called? & perhaps you could give us a New Year treat & use your tattoos as your avatar

if I didn't already think that the list was a disgraceful farce, and just a sideshow of an old order which will one day be swept away, the fact that Karen Brady has got a gong would just about take the ****** biscuit.
