Sean Rafferty At Home with Julian Bream

A pleasant 75 minutes conversation with some records - SR and JB clearly get on well. Touching to hear Bream playing a few notes on the guitar, which he can hardly do these days since his accident 2 years ago. One or two anecdotes I hadn't heard or had forgotten - working on Britten's Nocturnal at Robert Graves's place on Mallorca - and a gem about Segovia. SR was asking about Bream's commissions, and said didn't Segovia commission some things - Bream replied that he didn't think Segovia actually commissioned anything, he just asked people to write for him . Worth a listen.

I'll catch up with it on iPlayer.

Until this year I hadn't seen any photos of Bream for decades and it pained me to see how he had aged. It seems a silly thing to say but I was shocked.

For me the other highlight of this series of interviews is Mitsuko Uchida on Boxing Day. She must be the ideal interviewee and I usually find her passion and insights a real delight.
