    Brahms' Soul Music

Ok, so who knew Brahms wrote soul music? Actually the title refers to the effect his German Requiem has on the listener. The programme, broadcast on Radio 4 (sic), is available to listen again here.

The list of available podcasts in this series is here.

Thanks. Re your '(sic)' - as we are all a mere 'subset of the Radio 4 audience' it won't matter if Radio 3 gives up the music talks as long as Radio 4 takes them over ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

AAMOF I don't have a problem with R4 broadcasting classical music programmes; after all I believe it's part of its remit to cover the arts. Keeping such programmes purely on R3 is more likely to see classical music marginalised.

Interestingly, a couple of the (American) contributors appear to have misunderstood Brahms believing the composition to be an expression of Brahms' faith in God.

These programmes often have contributors from the US. I wonder if there is some shared production with an American station?
