    Hiya Barbirollians,

Although I don't have this Elgar particular recording what you say doesn't surprise me. I believe Barenboim to be of the finest conductors around if not the finest. If anyone is doing to conduct English music in Berlin it is likely to be Barenboim not Runnicles or Rattle. He has an indescribable aura about him, something of the manner that I found in Lenny Bernstein. In 2013 when I saw Barenboim conduct the last 3 Mozart symphonies with the Vienna Philharmonic in Dresden I felt this special feeling even before he took the podium. Like a momentous sense of occasion. Hey man, creepy or what!

I very much like Barenboim's Elgar, he seems to get it. My particular joy is the Zukerman recording of the violin concerto, up there with the Menuhin/Elgar version.

I wonder what he'd make of the Vaughan Williams Symphonies.
Does anyone know if he has ever conducted RVW in concert.
It would be great to see if he would in Berlin!
