Come on FF you know what to do, get hold of the BBC by the ankles and don't let go

It's stuff like this that makes life so much harder for those of us who work in music and education.
Why do we have to have EVERYTHING turned into stupid oppositional crap ?

    and well ferreted Mercia

    and from the BBC link

as I've got older and come to terms with who I am, that it's alright to be me and I've recognised that I don't really enjoy popular types of music.
    apart from the 'fact' that
there’s nothing she enjoys more than stomping out to a rock gig
OR maybe she is into Merzbow ? (you seen her down at Cafe OTO beefy ?)

I notice that you mention Masami Akita (or Wasabi Wichita, as I've heard him dubbed) in his better known manifestation quite frequently here; I just thought that I might therefore register the fact that I have so far found few if any things that generate utter boredom in me as does such as I've heard of his stuff. For the record and or the avoidance of doubt, that is - and is intended to be read as - a personal opinion and not as a value judgement. In the spirit of Stravinsky's notorious put-down of a certain German composer whose work he deprecated - namely "if Richard, then Wagner - if Strauss, then Johann" (to which my immediate retort on first hearing it was "if Igor, the Prince") - may I say "if Merz, then Merz Pharma GmbH & Co. KGaA; if Bow, then Kevin Bowyer"?...

Anyway, back to tips for conductorial success...

        I know what you mean
BUT having seen him play live it's another thing all together
so another example of music that is context dependent ?

I quite like boredom (and not just the Buzzcocks version ) I find La Monte Young thrilling

My tip for conductorial success is don't conduct a youth orchestra
Having conducted one and also The Philharmonia I know which one I would choose

        (or become a Moomin ? )

It's the British way. Hadn't you noticed?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
