Can't agree about the sonatas. The third might not be an unqualified masterpiece but in the right hands it can be thrilling. And what of the wonderful first piano concerto? Is that not 'early' too?

I expect because they're young man's music.

The F minor, as played by a pianist of Katchen's stature, is leonine; utterly majestic music making.
