Today - trying a bit of experimental composition.
Just under a minute (54 seconds according to Logic) of a piece for glockenspiel, marimba and vibraphone in 23 bars. Written in Musescore then transferred to Logic. Will file it away. Might add some more parts (instruments) and sections later, or might just put it in the never to see light of day bin!Comment

Today I composed a solo over the standard set of changes for a jazz-blues in F. I did this on paper - this is the first time in a while I've actually composed something onto paper rather improvising it, but I have read in more than one source that it's a good thing to do; also (and this is my own thought) it's good because it's something tangible - if I compose one chorus a day, soon enough I'll have amassed a decent number of ideas, like a diary or dictionary of musical ideas I can turn to, in addition to the ideas I've discovered while improvising which are in my head/fingers and are thus less tangible.
Also, for a while I've sort of neglected the blues form, preferring to practice other standards. So watch this space for a video of me playing a blues when it's a year since I restarted jazz guitar - which it will be on May the 20th. Got to get it up to scratch by that date.Comment

and, like most freelance and self-employed people we really have a scant idea whether the supposed support we are apparently getting in June sometime will amount to anything... whilst the government will fund the likes of Tesco who are still planning to pay shareholders etc BUT there really is no point getting too annoyed about it, same as it ever was.
Like many in similar circumstances, I've reduced by outgoings but there will come a time when they start asking again for things like mortgage payments etc.. I do have the advantage of living in a "cheap" rural area so have space and not as pushed as many.
Tools wise... i've done several online gigs etc some with FB, some on other streaming platforms etc i'll send you a PM with some links if you likeComment

Very possibly a "misuse" of the system (no - is there such a thing as misuse?) but adding new instrument tracks for Gamelan, Skin Drum and various others, and moving regions about (without changing them otherwise) gives some significantly different effects. I hope I've managed to capture those, without losing my original project - though it's not the end of the world if I do. I still have the original score which I could rework.
I was thinking of doing another similar one or two today, but discovering the sounds in the DAWs was interesting and filled in half an hour. I should go back to instrumental practice.
I'm also hoping to do a surround sound recording to add to the mix.Comment

At least it was an experiment in seeing if I could use some of the tools. I uploaded to SoundCloud, and then discovered I'd already put one track up there - maybe incorporate those into a more complex whole - together with some of the newer recordings I've been making.Comment

Practising a number of things by William Baines (the Yorkshire composer who died in 1922 aged 23). For a long time, I've been intending to record all his published piano music - it would fit nicely on one CD. There are four or five pieces which I've never been able to get up to the level at which I'd feel able to record them - so over the last few months, I've decided to try to nail them once and for all. (In the current situation, it seems a good idea not to waste any more time
)
Also having a go at the Bach Italian Concerto - sometimes only JSB will do

Might even try one or two myself. Some of the Twilight Pieces look quite accessible. Something like this:
