It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Let's do a poll here, say giving our top 10 in order of preference (10 points for top of the one for bottom of the list). I'd be happy to collate the results, I know the numbers won't be high but at least it would representative of traditional R3 listeners and the various genres that the station used to and should be catering for and send this to the BBC as I direct challenge? What do you think ff?

Let's see if that works. Before I (or you) start a new thread, do we need any rules?

Only posts nominating - is 10 too many? - a list should be posted. No discussion?

We can let it run until next Thursday - just before the 'Real' SoC ends.

        Anything else?

What is the poll of? Film music or programmes on classical music that we'd like the BBC to broadcast...maybe even on Radio 3 !

I gather Sc meant a rival film music poll, with a 'better class' of list to vote on!

Ah 'proper' music. I'm with you on that one.

So it's a case of moving the goalposts and being blatantly dishonest in saying it's the result of the Radio 3 listeners vote (actually I feel quite affronted, as a R3 listener, that anyone would think I'd voted for Star Wars!) It should have been announced as 'Radio 3 reveals the result of the BBC poll of all listeners and viewers as to their favourite filmscores' .... or words to that effect.

But on to the R3 Forum's 'alternative' vote. Not sure if I'm enough of a film buff to contribute a list but I'll certainly consider and vote on the lists when everyone has posted theirs.

There would also be DavidP's film music recommendations to consider on his thread ...

KD has just GOT to be stopped. She just told us that John Williams got an Oscar for Star Wars in 1975. That's one hell of an achievement, receiving an award for a yet unwritten score.

Just the lists I think no discussion, in order 1-10, I think most of us would be able to supply 10 and we'd get a pretty wide range. Probably best to say which version of a film so we get the correct composer, maybe list the composer beside the film, would make it easier. Running till next Thursday sounds good.

Can one really vote on film music? Surely it is in conjunction with the film itself, the visuals etc, as I am guessing that the sort of music we'll suggest will be Also Sprach, Mahler 5 adagio ?

Don't say we never achieve anything
