Interesting that, as a genre, the BBC classifies the event as 'Easy Listening, Sound Tracks & Musicals'. I must admit that I'd have been mistaken in thinking it wasn't appropriate for Radio 3: to a T...

It would be nice if we heard some of the more off-piste or minor, if you will, composers:
George Auric (a nice little programme on Ealing soundtracks?)
Hans May (I very much like the music to Brighton Rock)
James Bernard (check his Debussy-ish score for She (1965)
John Addison (his Charge of the Light Brigade score is great and Hitch used him I think)
A whole prog on N Rota (not saying he is minor, but I bet we don't hear his music to Amarcord etc during this season)
Rachel Portman (her music to Life is Sweet was very memorable)
A canter round film musicals, not just the obvious ones.

Meanwhile, over at Classic FM just over a year ago: Classic FM reveals the nation’s favourite movie music
In fact, they had a listeners' vote this year too (voting closed 5 August), top 100.
Star Wars came 2nd and lots of old favourites were there: Lawrence of Arabia, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Psycho, Vertigo, Dark Night, Schindler's List.
I hope people haven't got Movie Music voting fatigue just as Radio 3 is launching their version ...It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
