My guess is that it was just Nigel acting big and that he'll backtrack when questioned (giving a huge wink to the cameras as if to say but I was telling the truth really):
Any MP, Tory, Labour, Lib Dem or Green would say that if he really did as he said, at least two people should be charged with electoral fraud.
'And as he points out, "A lot more people listen to classical music now than when I started out," which he puts down in part to the appeal of his persona.' Um ...It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I'm sorry, but try as I might with Kennedy, I do think that he is, in common parlance, a bit of a knob.

A perfect summary!

Originally posted by underthecountertenor View PostExactly, Tony (and, on the first page, pastoralguy). I was entranced by his youthful recording of the Elgar Violin Sonata and miniatures (with Peter Pettinger) when it first came out, and still return to it with great pleasure. His early concerto recordings were, likewise, glorious. I almost wonder whether his bizarre behaviour and his rejection of anything the slightest bit traditional is, in part at least, subconsciously a response to the extraordinary array of perhaps even more wonderfully talented and technically secure young violinists who have appeared since the mid 80s. Might it be that for him to play any of the great violin concertos in live performances today would invite unfavourable comparisons? Or am I being unfair? Certainly his lifestyle would appear to afford him precious little opportunity to put in the work that such repertoire demands.

He does seem to be making the most of this moment in the sun of media attention while he's at the Proms - conductors are useless, electoral fraud (alleged), political pronouncements. How about giving Jennifer Pike a go at the Last Night? - I understand she will be available ...It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal.
