One of the greatest musicians. Funnily enough, I was sitting in the Usher Hall a couple of nights ago thinking about Dennis Brain playing his final concert there.

I remember returning from a holiday with musician friends. They delivered me home and came in for a cuppa. My mother met us with the sad news and our holiday mood was broken.

I hope to play one ofthe Mozart concertos recorded by him when a visitor has gone.

One of the greats.

I was told many, many years ago that, before DB, conductors expected horn payers to mispitch notes. After DB, they never did.

No doubt it's an exaggeration in part, but it would be interesting to hear Hornspieler's or Waldhorn's views.

One of those rare players whose timbre is completely unmistakable . Wonderful player.

I think the Dirge was the wrong bit of the Serenade to choose. The Elegy would have been better, where there is quite a bit of solo horn.

Very true, but this supposes that Breakfast presenters know enough about music to be discerning.

Yes you're right Mary, I have the recording and love the work but it was for Dennis today, after all....
