Would have missed this S_A, so used to Saturday Classics kicking off at 3pm. Intrigued it says music by *The Mighty Sparrow, (my eldest brother at one time lived and worked Trinidad and Tobago, he bought it there, passed it on to me some years ago, I passed it to the charity shop couple of months ago. I thought I was the only one who had ever heard of him!) Sounds an interesting programme.

The reason I've posted here rather than on the jazz board is the programme's subject matter.

I don't think this is what the quotation in #1 said. As I understand it, there are two broadcasts involving Django Bates; the first is based on Music inspired by birds and includes Music by Ravel and Rautavaara. The second is the "Charlie Parker Prom", led by Bates, with Music by the Bebop maestro whose nickname was "Bird".

I agree, Anna. In fact one gets to know all the influences on his own equally quirky, brilliant music.
