    Lucky Les Aldridge

I paid a visit to the Les Aldridge music shop in Muswell Hill today. They were proudly displaying a double page spread from the Sunday Express explaining a recent takeover. Simon the owner moved up to the North of England quite a while back, leaving a manager to run the business, but recently decided to sell. A man who had been a satisfied customer for twenty five years came in one day to buy some CDs. Hearing about the difficulty, he bought his CDs but also bought the shop as well !

There will be no change in the style of the business, and the staff seem very pleased with the outcome, having had assurances that the new owner wants to retain the special quality of service that is on offer. This is really encouraging news and it's obvious that the new owner is sincere.

I always intend to pay this apparently august and excellent music shop a visit on my trips to London, but have never quite made it - even though I stay just a 10 minute bus ride away; shame on me, I know. But next time, I absolutely will make my long-overdue visit.

Popped in to Les Aldrich the other day. They have completely refreshed the stock. Jazz and some rock/pop as well as classical. They seem to be thriving. Well worth a visit.

Thanks to Ferretfancy from a fellow Londoner for letting us know. The few remaining record shops must be supported.

I read in a recent edition of IRR magazine that Ian Rosenblatt, founder of the Rosebatt Song Reictal series at St John's Smith Square and latterly at Wigmore Hall, bought Les Aldrich when the owner wanted to retire.

The recordings emanating from the Rosenblatt recitals are available on Opus Arte . The site gives details of past and forthcoming recitals.

Rosenblatt Recital Series, established by Ian Rosenblatt in 2000, gives you the opportunity to hear international opera artists on a regular basis

I wish Mr Rosenblatt well in both his ventures
