        "Darn it, ums"

Sigh. I do, I live by myself and if I dont darn it, no one else will. And there is a limit to the tattiness of jeans that even I wont exceed.

No, but these are Trio speakers from Avantgarde Acoustics http://www.avantgarde-acoustic.com/trio-product-en.html

          Do you recognise this?

It's Rainer Wehinger's visual listening score to accompany György Ligeti’s Artikulation.

Do you know where this is ?

          Christ Church Cathedral

and can you tell what they are singing from the posture of the conductor ?
          Nope

          Which Orchestra is this ?

This is he Horn Section of the Vienna Philharmonic in one of their 1960/61 recording sessions for Decca the Rheingold, conducted by Sir Georg Solti in Sophie Hall in Vienna. First row from left: Gottfried von Freiberg, Josef Veleba, Josef Koller, Otto Nitsch, Leopold Kainz, Wolfgang Tomböck sen, Josef Samwald. Second row (Wagner tuba group) from left: Roland Berger, Hans Berger, Emil Kreuziger, Josef Lackner

          As any fule kno...

I'm no musician but I have a keen interest. Being a member of this forum (even if I do spend too much time on AA) has increased my enjoyment and knowledge of music.

Anyone can join up (providing they can get through the "passion" question!)

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments

I very much enjoyed your joke, Gongers!

(Actually it was simpler than reading the urls. I just dragged and dropped the pictures into Google images, then fiddled around to find the match!)

Speaking personally, I can see that there are a smallish number of boarders who appear to know each other and several who express themselves vigorously.

But a clique, an exclusive club?

                      I just don't see it.
On the whole I don't see this forum as a clique. Nevertheless, I would place a fairly safe bet on the 'smallish number of boarders' you refer to being members of Friends of Radio 3. And that group can be fairly described as a clique.

So, what used to happen (IMO) was that real and valuable political discussion, with logical comment form courteous persons holding different views, didn't really have a chance, but was stymied by one-liners, smileys, sarcastic comments, pictures, general irrelevancies and by interventions from those who simply missed the point.
This doesn't just apply to the 'political' threads you refer to but to discussions about R3 programming policy as well. I recognise all the 'tactics' you mention in your post since many of them have been used against me.

I think this is undoubtedly the case. Indeed, it is not above some on here to trawl through social media, digging up dirt on forum members who express views contrary to FoR3 and sending pm's to each other with the details. Not nice!

After all, I'm sure they're quite capable of doing it themselves.

The thing is, we don't know who it is that Simon contacts to garner the support he is clearly referring to.

and the odd chap who used to pop up and rant about how wrong music which had amplification was as it was "un-natural" ?
