Michael Pisaro concert at the City University Performance Space next Tuesday and The Paradoxical Lore Lixenberg a fortnight later.

Well, not actual tickets, but I have booked my places.

Going to hear Alina Ibragimova tomorrow! Not often is there any live music near to our holidays in the Cheviot Hills – we visit around school holidays, so usually there is nothing on………..

The aim of the Kelso Music Society is to attract the finest musicians from Scotland and beyond to our wonderful resonant and attractive eighteenth century church in the heart of the Scottish Borders.

I envy you that one CS - & when she's near me, I'll be there

(the photo suggests her old man, Mr Service, keeps her in a broom cupboard or suchlike ...)

its no surprise. I offered to buy him a pint of London Pride if he came to Basingstoke for a concert ( Central London 35 miles, trains every 15 minutes), but he didn't show.

anyway, my next scheduled concert night out is Cecilia Bartoli singing Handel Arias at the Barbican at the end of the month.
They just published the programme. It's all Handel arias, with some orchestral interludes. No real surprise, I suppose !!
Really looking forward to this very much. Been on my " to do" list for a long time.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Kelso Old Parish Church is a Georgian Octagonal church, with a gallery. The ground floor was not completely full but the chairman, in his welcome address did say it was the largest audience they have had and the central part (and more) was full so perhaps an audience of 200 or 250. The Borders are not densely populated, so a good showing. Rumour had it Ibragimova was booked when she played at the Paxton House music week some years ago - was asked, and agreed to perform for the society.

                          Berio. Sequenza VIII
Bach. Partita No.2 in D minor
                          Biber. Passacaglia in G minor
                          Bartok. Sonata for Solo Violin

I'd need to listen to the Berio again, before I could comment. The Bach was sublime, the Biber superb. The programme notes say that Menuhin, having commissioned the Bartok, blanched when he first saw the score. It seemed like a tour de force to me - Ibragimova was totally in command of the instrument, and played the piece with complete assurance and full expression. An evening not to be forgotten - a wonderful experience.

She was smiling when not engaged in playing, but did not say a word. (I overheard TS say the encore was , "err ....err... I think..err.....err..err.... a Bach....err....errr.. one of....err...err... the Sonatas...."). There is a photo on this page of her rehearsing (she played the whole programme through during the afternoon)
All concerts take place in Kelso Old Parish Church, The Knowes, Kelso, TD5 7BH The Knowes is the largest car park in Kelso and is adjacent to the centre of Kelso.

(I remarked to Mrs CS, before the start, that the table and pot plant on the stage suggested we were about to attend a performance by a medium (- or perhaps "The Medium" (Menotti)). However, it has to be said the flexibility of the chancel makes it a good performing space and the acoustics were very good.
