Julie Fuchs at the end of April in the Wigmore Hall. I absolutely love her voice.

Mendelssohn Prelude and Fugue in E minor, op. 35, no. 1
Shostakovich Prelude and Fugue no. 18 in F minor
Barber Fugue from Piano Sonata in E-flat minor, op. 26
Bach Partita no. 6 in E minor, BWV 830

One of the world’s greatest living pianists, Angela Hewitt performs Bach’s monumental Sixth Partita alongside a selection from The Well-Tempered Clavier and other works inspired by Bach's landmark collection of preludes and fugues.
What a programme that is! Fantastic. Presumably will include the E minor Bach P&F, and perhaps the Fminor and E flat minor too! I have only just discovered the Mendelssohn, and it's a masterpiece.

It's a leap year, and on 29th Feb I'm off to hear Isabelle Faust in Brahms, and Rattle, LSO, in Shostakovich 4...

Off to Manchester on Wednesday, Trans Pennine Express permitting. Hallé afternoon concert at the Bridgewater Hall:

        Debussy: Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune

Khachaturian: Violin Concerto - Nemanja Radulović violin

        Stravinsky: The Firebird: Suite (1945)

Hallé Orchestra conducted by Alondra de la Parra

I've not heard the Khachaturian concerto played live before so particularly looking forward to that. Then on Thursday a lunchtime concert at the Bridgewater.

        Arnold Bax: Elegiac Trio

Tōru Takemitsu: And Then I Knew ’Twas Wind

Claude Debussy: Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp

        Trio Farben

The Flying Dutchman at the ROH in March. I'm not sure whether 'excited' would be the right word, though. As a long time Terfel sceptic I still find myself trying to understand what it is about him that so many people find so mesmerising. I fully expect him to shout his way through the part, and for everyone to say how marvellous he was, but I am always open to having my mind changed. I haven't seen this opera live for decades. In fact, the last time I saw it it was sung by Bernd Weikl, who was a late (disappointing) substitute for Terfel, who was supposed to be debuting in the role.
