I heard her at the Kennedy Centre about 10 years ago in a fund raising concert for the National Symphony Orchestra. ($4.5 million raised!!) I was thrilled that Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman were playing Mozart's Sinfonia Concertanta but it was Alicia Weilerstein at the very beginning of her career playing Tchaikovsky's Roccoco Variations that left the strongest musical memory. She's a wonderful artist and is responsible for my all time favourite recording of Dvorak's lovely concerto.

I've booked for the 7th of November. Up in the 'gods' (partially restricted view and restricted legroom but an aisle seat which should allow me to stretch out my right leg which has limited knee flexion.

On the 16th of November I will be seeing Ozmosys, a band comprising Omar Hakim, Rachel Z, Linley Marthe and Kurt Rosenwinkel. Which means, since the following night I will be seeing Herbie Hancock, I will be spending the day in London. Suggestions as to how to kill the time will be welcome...

Never mind killing time, get thee along to Tate Modern and spend it usefully. Alternatively, take a trip up the Thames while you still can.

Angela Hewitt playing Bach English Suites at Turner Sims, Southampton on 15 October - second of two. We heard her give the first, on 11 June, from the second row, keyboard side. At the end she thanked the audience for 'such quiet attention throughout this monster programme' - before gracing us with a single Bach encore.

What an extraordinary privilege to hear this great artist within a few miles of where I live, and at a fraction of London prices.

As people say, 'I can't wait' - though of course I shall.

It's an ace caff with a pretty decent art gallery attached.

She's also playing the Bach at the Edinburgh Festival over two nites.

Very much looking forward to hearing her.

I need to tell them to spell his name correctly!

Looking forward to meeting them both and to seeing an electric harp!

                            Now this is REALLY exciting.

A little while ago KK assured me that , having known Chary Nurymov when he was young, he was planning to programme some of his music soon.
And hey bungo here it is, the second Symphony, at the Lighthouse.

Just brilliant. Already can’t wait !!
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Not strictly tickets (they don't do tickets. You pay the advance pus booking fee and your name goes on the list), but John Tilbury playing Cage's SOnatas and INterlused on the Cafe OTO Yamaha C3. While guided by Cage's table of preparations, John will, of course, let his ears be the tuning arbiter.

In preparation for the event, I am working my way through some of the many recordings of the work I have available. Contrary to the claim on the Cafe OTO site, John Tilbury was by no means the first to record the work commercially. That honour went to its dedicatee, Maro Ajemian, back in 1951 (Dial Records). That was followed in 1965 by first of two recordings of the work made by Yuji Takahashi, then, in 1971, John Darngaard recorded it for, I think, Classico Records (now in a Membran Quadromania 4 disc set). This third recording was the first in stereo. There are now many more recordings of the work to be found. About time Record Review commissioned a BaL on it.
