Off to Manchester on Wednesday, Trans Pennine Express permitting. Hallé afternoon concert at the Bridgewater Hall:
Debussy: Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune
Khachaturian: Violin Concerto - Nemanja Radulović violin
Stravinsky: The Firebird: Suite (1945)
Hallé Orchestra conducted by Alondra de la Parra
I've not heard the Khachaturian concerto played live before so particularly looking forward to that. Then on Thursday a lunchtime concert at the Bridgewater.
Arnold Bax: Elegiac Trio
Tōru Takemitsu: And Then I Knew ’Twas Wind
Claude Debussy: Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp
Trio Farben

The Flying Dutchman at the ROH in March. I'm not sure whether 'excited' would be the right word, though. As a long time Terfel sceptic I still find myself trying to understand what it is about him that so many people find so mesmerising. I fully expect him to shout his way through the part, and for everyone to say how marvellous he was, but I am always open to having my mind changed. I haven't seen this opera live for decades. In fact, the last time I saw it it was sung by Bernd Weikl, who was a late (disappointing) substitute for Terfel, who was supposed to be debuting in the role.
