I am very envious! I saw that in the Barbican programme when I was there last week for Rattle and the LSO. Next weekend, I am stopping off in London en route from Nice to Hong Kong for Mitsuko Uchida/Mahler CO Mozart PCs at the RFH on Friday night, 'La Traviata' at the ROH at midday on Saturday and the Chiaroscuro Quartet for a sherry special at the Wigmore Hall on Sunday morning, before getting on the plane later on Sunday. Alas, unlike a fortnight ago when I was in HK for 6 days, there doesn't appear to be anything on. The last visit allowed me to hear all six Brandenburgs done one to a part by a pretty classy scratch band overseen by Mahan Esfahani (the HiPPsters of HK were all aswoon) and then later in the week the HKPO conducted by the astonishing (and elfin) Elim Chan demonstrating complete control over the orchestra in Petrushka and Kalevi Aho's Percussion Concerto.

Well I have a freebie for the world premiere of Steve Elcock’s 4th Symphony next Tuesday afternoon.
Here’s hoping I’ll be able to attend but at least it’s on the radio.

Works by Rudi Stephan, Steve Elcock, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich, live from Salford.

Two years after the last post, I am much looking forward to being able to buy tickets without worrying too much about performances being cancelled. Ivan Fischer, Pat Kop and the Budapest FO in an all-Stravinsky programme in the RFH on Thursday of next week then ‘The Cunning Little Vixen’ at ENO on the Friday.

Likewise, nothing specific booked yet, but I am looking forward to this year's Swaledale Festival (https://www.swalefest.org/) and The Sixteen's annual choral pilgrimage which visits York in July.

I was going to say thanks for the heads-up, Edgy, when I noticed the date of posting. Actually, the thanks still stands, as you've prompted me to check out Elcock's music - and I'll be putting in an order. The really good news is that this isn't going to set off any bickering about "best" recordings.

Btw, did you make it to the gig in the end?

It was cancelled as the first lockdown kicked in

I assume you are aware of the composer's own website EotS https://steveelcock.fr/works-2

Thanks to a passing remark by Kate Molleson on Breakfast yesterday morning about having been to a rehearsal of the Bach St Matthew Passion by the Dunedin Consort, I have tickets for tonight at Wigmore Hall. I have never heard this work live and am very excited about the prospect, especially with this ensemble. Vaut le voyage, as I beieve Michelin guides say.

No tickets required for this, but I am looking forward to it:

Ian Pace plays Beethoven's third symphony, in the rarely performed transcriptions for solo piano by Franz Liszt, alongside works by Alkan, Skryabin, James Dillon, Camden Reeves and Jenny Jackson.
