"Excited" is probably the wrong word for the occasion, but Mahler 9/LSO/Haitink at the Barbican on Tue.

The 1987 Kirstmatinee Haitink/Concertgebouworkest version found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjYs99atLUI may be rather different to what will be on offer since BH was a youthful 58 then, but if it is any guide this should be memorable.

I'm expecting to be at this tonight at the RFH
RVW Sea SymphonyElgar Cello Concerto, and a new work from Jimmy Mac.

not got my ticket yet, but loads left, sadly.
Cracking and full value programme, terrific soloists, and hopefully a pleasant summer evening by the Thames.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Report eagerly awaited (assuming you go, of course); I wonder if it is being recorded for future broadcast.

I shall be rehearsing (first time in the venue, to get used to the acoustics) for this, on Saturday (we are allowed to promote concerts we're involved in, I hope):

An interesting programme, Rob - Weinberg and Kabalevsky especially.

yep, that sure looks a tasty programme. Perhaps ER can have a word and persuade him to bring it south.

Anyway, the excellent Steve Knightly is ,somewhat amazingly, playing at our village hall in September, about 100 yards up the road. We have our tickets.

And I think I'll probably take in this one at the RFH, though I haven't booked yet.

Sibelius 6 and 7, Philharmonia, Esa Pekka Salonen.

Schubert: Piano Sonatas D959 and D960

                        Arcadi Volodos

At the Roque d'Anthéron Festival - good weather forecast as in no thunderstorms. He was wonderful the last time I heard him here so hoping for a great concert

Well it will be pay at the door, rather than already having the ticket, but again Schubert D960, but this time with the Violin Sonata and Feldman's "Palais de mari". Mark Knoop will be the pianist.

The Howard Skempton 70th birthday concerts, etc. at Kings Place nest Friday. Also picked up my previously ordered ticket for Feldman's For John Cage at the same venue next April 25th.

Haven't got a ticket yet, as this is not likely to sell out, but I plan on going (will get tickets if I'm passing by during the week).

                              York Guildhall Orchestra
                              Saturday, 14th October, 2017, 7:30pm
                              York Barbican
Berlioz - Overture Le Carnaval Romain
                              Fauré - Pavane
                              Bartok - Piano Concerto No.3
                              Sibelius - Valse Triste
                              Sibelius - Symphony No.5

It will be the first time I've seen Bartok PC3 played, I think.

Birtwistle: Earth Dances/Vaughan Williams: A Sea Symphony

BBC Symphony Orchestra et al/Martyn Brabbins

This Friday (13th) at the Barbican

Interesting programming - never heard the Sea Symphony live so looking forward to curing my faint aversion to Walt Whitman being belted out by a chorus.
