Curses - the 'apply for tickets' button suggested there was still room at this enticing concert in a couple of weeks
Britten Diversions for Piano Left Hand and Orchestra
Malcolm Arnold Symphony No. 5
Pavel Kolesnikov piano
Michael Seal conductor
BBC Symphony Orchestra
But on clicking through, hopes dashed - it's full...Last edited by Nick Armstrong; 24-10-16, 19:02."...the isle is full of noises,

A rare chance to hear a Martinů Symphony live (the 4th, my favourite I think) with the Bournemouth SO in Poole on Wednesday. Repertoire of such rarity as to make braving the awe-inspiringly uninspiring acoustic of The Lighthouse worth it...
Then the LPO/Vanska at the RFH on Friday for a mostly Sibelius concert ending with the 6th and 7th symphonies. Expectations of this have been raised by general fulsome praise for the earlier recent concerts comprising the rest of a Sibelius symphony cycle.
Looking a little further ahead to the end of November, the Alpine Symphony with the LSO/Pappano at the Barbican and Das Rheingold with the Hallé/Elder et al in Manchester stand out in the ticket in-tray as likely to provide pleasant distraction from the impending cold and dark.

Marking the opening of three new halls in Germany next year (well, one is a re-furb), I've got tickets for the following —
2nd June : Pierre Boulez Saal, Berlin A new (mainly) recital hall which is part of the Barenboim-Said Akadamie.
Radu Lupu Piano recital (Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Debussy)
4th June : Kurturpalast, Dresden A Berlin-Philharmonie-style refurbishment of the Communist-era concert hall.
Leonidas Kavakos, Frankfurt Radio Symphony / Andrés Orozco-Estrada Ligeti: Lontano; Brahms: Violin Concerto; Stravinsky: Rite of Spring)
6th June : Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg This amazing new concert hall is finally finished, way past schedule and over budget.
La Fura dels Baus Theatre Group, Soloists, Accentus Choir, Insula Orchestra / Laurence Equilbey Haydn: The CreationLast edited by DublinJimbo; 29-10-16, 21:44.
