Informally contacted the Concertgebouw for the 2020 Mahler-Fest (8-20 May 2020), the centenary of the first Amsterdam Mahler Fest 1920 and 25 years after the 1995 one.

Interesting. I'll have retired by then and I can see where that year's holiday will be spent. Please keep us posted on this one, Roehre.

          Sunday 22 June 2014

          Handel: Israel in Egypt
Thomas Tallis Society; St Alfege, Greenwich

Have never been to Greenwich, so making a tourism weekend of it, staying with a friend who is singing in the concert. Early start concert (6:30), with picnic interval. Here's hoping for fine weather (and a fine performance!).

Never been to Glyndebourne and never going to be able to really enjoy anything at the prices for the Festival so ... booked today to see Turn of the Screw as part of the Glyndebourne Tour kick off at Glyndebourne.

I doubt I can see the stage from my seat but I intend to enjoy being there!

I've been to Glyndebourne six times, but only once during the Festival (friends of friends of the stage crew). The Touring company has always been excellent - and I don't think there is a seat in the theatre that doesn't have at least a decent view of the stage, ginjon - enjoy what sounds like a great evening; I'm a-little-more-than-ever-so-slightly jealous!

Cheers! Can only really do it now that I'm within sensible driving range of the front door of the place. Rude not to, in fact.

I saw Glyndebourne on tour in Oxford about 15 years ago. They did Birtwistle's The Last Supper. Unfortunately my desire to fully replicate the 'dining experience' at the heart of Glyndebourne (only missing out on the food) means my only clear memory is of nearly missing the last train home. I remember liking the opera but can't remember anything about it.

No drink this time though - driving.

Up the A65 from Skipton to Kirby Lonsdale (stopping there for a tea at the "Ty Bach" - a tea shop with Welsh owners) then right onto the A683 to Sedburgh.

Or North up the M6 to Junction 37, then East onto the A684 until it joins the A683 at Sedburgh.

We've never been to the Bridgewater before - are Chethams a reasonable bet for an enjoyable evening??
We've now bought our tickets. Any views on whether we should be getting excited???
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Well, I would. Chetham's are sure to perform beautifully under Jac van Steen who is sought as often as possible for the CBSO Youth Orchestra. Their collaborations have been phenomenally successful

Just arrived in Leipzig ahead of tomorrow's concert by the Gewandhaus under Riccardo Chailly to mark Richard Strauss' 150th. Don Quixote and Till on the bill, along with a handful of orchestral songs from Matthias Goerne. Then, on Thursday, I'm at the general of Leipzig Opera's new Die Frau ohne Schatten. Yep, pretty excited.
