Sunday 22 June 2014
Handel: Israel in Egypt
Thomas Tallis Society; St Alfege, Greenwich
Have never been to Greenwich, so making a tourism weekend of it, staying with a friend who is singing in the concert. Early start concert (6:30), with picnic interval. Here's hoping for fine weather (and a fine performance!).

Never been to Glyndebourne and never going to be able to really enjoy anything at the prices for the Festival so ... booked today to see Turn of the Screw as part of the Glyndebourne Tour kick off at Glyndebourne.
I doubt I can see the stage from my seat but I intend to enjoy being there! The best music is the music that persuades us there is no other music in the world-- Alex Ross

I saw Glyndebourne on tour in Oxford about 15 years ago. They did Birtwistle's The Last Supper. Unfortunately my desire to fully replicate the 'dining experience' at the heart of Glyndebourne (only missing out on the food) means my only clear memory is of nearly missing the last train home. I remember liking the opera but can't remember anything about it.

Jan van Steen. .... The programme certainly appeals.
We've never been to the Bridgewater before - are Chethams a reasonable bet for an enjoyable evening??I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Just arrived in Leipzig ahead of tomorrow's concert by the Gewandhaus under Riccardo Chailly to mark Richard Strauss' 150th. Don Quixote and Till on the bill, along with a handful of orchestral songs from Matthias Goerne. Then, on Thursday, I'm at the general of Leipzig Opera's new Die Frau ohne Schatten. Yep, pretty excited. Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency....
