Well, as I've been unable to attend concerts for some time, my list is,no particular order.

    Sargent
    Colin Davis
Furtwangler [once seen but never forgotten]

    What about you?

        I haven't seen enough to list five..........yet.

However, by virtue of the fact I lived in Paris, I did see Daniele Gatti a few times in Mahler and Beethoven. He does sometimes come to London and I wholly endorse a visit to see him. I was never disappointed with his performances, and nor was the person I went, a man who has an astonishing wealth of live concert experience, including a trip to Bayreuth.

Interesting overlaps, fhg! I havered about Karajan. I was at that last RFH concert (Verklärte Nacht, Brahms 1) and it was tremendous... but Abbado nicks it (not only because I've seen him so much more often)

Agreed. I'll add Nelsons who's still under 35.

Ah! how could I forget Haitink! Thanks Cali! I remember to wonderful concerts. A prom performance that had Holst's The Planets and a turly remarkable performance of Shosta's 4th

Oh yes, another vote for Vasily from me too!

On the Berlin DCH, the three I've found most compelling would be Rattle, Haitink and - Emmanuelle Haim with the wondrous, wild red mane (hope she hasn't cut it...). Seek out the concert she gave with the Berliners of Rameau and Handel. Marvellous to hear and magnetic to watch.

That's making me ever more likely to stump up for some of his Brahms cycle at the RFH next season.
