Interesting films, hafod - the landfill orchestra always me whiffling and pooting.

A sad, anger-inspiring time to be sure. But what about the factory-workers, the labourers, the shop-keepers and farmers, young people who have never had a job and older people whose pensions are being cut, who are having a hard time too?

I'm pleased that at 55 my ex partner has decided to learn the violin....doubly pleased because she is using the one and only violin my father made in the 80's (just about his last act was finishing it) by all accounts it is impeccably made and sounds good. Except for a few years when it was loaned to a folk violinist, it has languished in its case, so at last it is being used.
Yes a touching little film, and such skills both of the makers and musicians....
Sad times, I cannot pull myself out of the miasma of gloom fuming out of the media....and what one sees and hears in everyday life nearer to home....

Hafod....your name always reminds me of holidays in mid Wales, near a village called Pontrydygroes, and a forest estate called The Hafod....swimming in and damming up the River Ystwyth....

The following is taken from Norman Lebrecht's blog, Slipped Disc:

"We have received this message from the musicians of the shut-down national radio and television centre in Athens: Dear friends, these are our colleagues from our National Radio Orchestra and Chorus, performing in tears, in their rehearsal room, yesterday night. The room, albeit hot and humid as the air-condition is not working, is packed with people, while thousands are watching outside on the video wall. Both the orchestra and chorus were shut down along with the state radio and tv channels three days ago. 2650 families are now with no job. Please spread the news, we need your support… Let us keep the art alive! Let us keep democracy alive!"
