Beef Oven's elusive text bears a similarity to

    For they that wasted us
    Required of us mirth;
They that carried us away captive
    Required of us a song.
Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

How shall we sing the Lord's song
    In a strange land?

from Belshazzar's Feast and presumably with the same biblical source.

Amazing what parco's original post has unleashed...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Rivers of Babylon A flop? "Boney M.'s release stayed at the #1 position in the UK for five weeks and was also the group's only significant US chart entry, peaking at #30 in the Pop charts. In the UK Boney M. sold more than 1,985,000 copies of the song, meaning the single was awarded a platinum disc and is one of the top ten all-time best-selling singles in the UK, " saith the Wiki.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Yes. It's Psalm 137 - it appears in both Belshazzar's Feast and Boney M's (or Chickory Tip's) hit:
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?
If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

              Happy stuff

I wonder what The Stones would have made of that at the time?...

It quite literally doesn't get bigger than this. To date, 180 singles in UK chart history have surpassed one million sales, the latest of which is Pompeii by Bastille.

                      Hyped !!

                      Can't trust them either !
Beefy actually worked on the Hyping team, he single handedly bought nearly 500 copies in the Shoreditch branch of "Our Price".

Good money in hyping, even for the runners.

Help me, please. I've never thought of Boney M as a punk band - more a sort of dance/reggae band. You've now called them 'punk' twice. Why? (I'm clearly missing something - not that I greatly desire to find it!)

Hardly "punk" (but it does mean something else to Americans ) or even "Reggae"
but surely the "M" have taught the yoof more about Russian History than Gove ever will ?
So for that , it's time for "Night Flight to Venus"
