Quite a few McCabe discs currently available, I was surprised and delighted to see on a quick surf of the (Time & the) River people. As soon as this:

A bit pricey if they should so wish, Bbm:

As an appetite-whetter, there's this on youTube:

Our live, winning performance at the 2002 British Open Brass Band Championships at Symphony Hall in Birmingham.

... which makes a full-price disc seem less expensive.

Ah, amazon's brass band cds are. I would reccomend www.worldofbrass.com, although a few pence cheaper, may help better?

Just now listening to the Cyril Rootham Elegy for the Fallen - a wonderful choral/orchestral work on the grandest scale that makes it's debt to Vaughan Williams's Sea Symphony clear, but is certainly none the worse for that. Good programme, this.

Yes, indeed, SA. This is truly a wonderful work.Possibly better than Elgar's? I think that Elgar work is not at his best?

thanks for the tip, ER. I have sought it out, its next up.

                    When does the season start?
in fact why don't they start the proms when the footy finishes?

Song: RVW, Warlock, Holst, F G Scott, Finzi, Butterworth, Rubbra, Sommervell, Stanford, Parry and many many more. Don't get me started!
I've enjoyed this thread and learnt much (e.g. Bush) but no mention of Roger Quilter, a prolific writer of lovely, uncomplicated song settings. Too rarely recorded.

Also, I only recently came across Edgar Bainton' "Miniature Suite" for piano.
