    very wise to check first.
    Don't want any unpleasantness.

Bowen's Phantasy for Viola is a terrific piece.

Quite a few CDs from Hyperion, too (and some works on Dutton and Lyrita).

For about £8 you get 2 Bush symphonies, as well as 1 each from Butterworth and Gipps, Bax 6, some Coleridge Taylor and Cowen, as well as some interesting Bits and bobs including a "Job" , some interesting Holst, and an Arnold 5
Its a bit mixed, and some is not really to my taste, but it is well worth the money IMO.

              I still do ff.

Symphonies 1 & 2 (Chandos) and Viola Sonatas (Naxos)are especially good IMO.

I have this British music set recorded in Munich. I was a touch disappointed with it in truth. I know how good the Munich Philharmonic are currently and were around Celibidache’s time. I guess the orchestra were maybe not rehearsed as much as they needed for what would have been all new repertoire for them.

Thanks for that call up Stan! Unfortunately ts, I wont be seeking this one out.although, I know the music comes from top drawer compoers, the actual playing let's the music down, imo.

Stan's judgement is beyond question. Its just a great opportunity to hear some music that is either unavailable or very expensive elsewhere.

Ideal for those long work drives !

Just played that rather good hyperion cd of Bax's chamber music, as performed by the Nash Ensemble.

Forgive my mentioning this, having already remarked on it on another thread, but John McCabe's Fourth Symphony of 1995/6, performed in this afternoon's concert, is truly worth a listen, as I'm sure the iplayer will oblige. This work reinforced my long-held view of McCabe as a major British composer of the last 50 years.

Genrally speaking, I think he is a major composer of this country. Sadly much neglected. At some point I will play this SA.

I'm sorry to have missed this symphony. My McCabe library is this one CD ,http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mccabe-Quart...mccabe+quartet but it's strongly recommended as an introduction. I do have Mr McCabe heavily marked for further investigation though.
