Without consulting my leader ams, but as June is slipping away, I have submitted the most recent suggestions above to 3Breakfast by the very old fashioned medium of email.

An immediate email was fired back stating

".....Please note we are receiving a large volume of suggestions for the map. Please be assured we now have your e-mail and we will endeavour to process it in due course"!!!!

We are all taqlking of ther heavyweioghts in british music but we must not forget the lighter side, either?

Managed to catch up with this at last.....I found it very, very enjoyable and not as dark as ER did or as "in the manner of others" as has been suggested. A lot to catch up with - the whole RVW COTW series for a start. how did we live without iplayer?

                Hiya gouldy,

I recall listening to the Grace Williams and yes at times I did hear suggestions of Vaughan Williams.

Maybe just a smidgen but, to me at least, not the total clone we seem to be lead to believe. Will not all composers carry forward into their own work a little of their teacher(s)?

I thouight that to, Stan, RVW's influenece quite heavily here, although i am not grumbling! Composers, imo, often ndo have some influences of their teacher's style.

Whatever influences we may or may not hear in the 2nd Symphony of Grace Williams it is certainly a marvelous piece of music.
It gladdens my heart that there is so much discussion on here about these neglected British composers.
Hooray for British music month !

This afternoon there's a chance to listen to BBCSSO/Andrew Manze in Vaughan Williams symphony no 3 (remember their thrilling RVW symphonies 4-6 evening at the Proms in 2012?)

Jonathan Swain presents music by Stanford, Wesley, Liszt, Bartok and Vaughan Williams.

Later: The programme also includes a performance of Bartok violin concerto no 2 by Bartok: Violin Concerto no. 2 by Patricia Kopatchinskaja (violin),BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and Ilan Volkov (conductor). I heard this soloist in Prokofiev violin concerto no 2 at the Royal Festival Hall a few weeks ago with LPO/Jurowski, and it was a thrilling performance, full of imagination & magic so I have high hopes for the Bartok
